Jose Azurdia

On Thursday, December 1st 2016, Jose Ernesto of Waltham passed away at age 75. Born on February 23, 1941 in Guatemala; son of the late Alfredo Azurdia and Gregoria Mazariegos, Jose immigrated to the United States as a young man and had resided in the Allston/Brighton area of Boston before moving to Brookline and then finally to Waltham in 2000 and has been a resident ever since. On November 26, 1966, he married his soul mate and love of his life, Margarita. This past Saturday, November 26, 2016, surrounded by family and friends, he renewed his vows and celebrated 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife. They sang and danced through the evening as they had for the last 50 years together. Jose is most remembered for his valiant attitude, never giving up and always smiling. He was a fanatic of futbol soccer, playing throughout his younger years and following closely his favorite teams, Barcelona and the National soccer team of Argentina. He was a champion pool player and lover of card games, playing Solitaire on ends and spending equal time playing cards with his grandchildren and his nephew, Selvin, for whom he saw as a son. Jose is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Margarita (Quiroa) Azurdia, her devoted & loving children Lilian “Lucky” Azurdia of Waltham, Ingrid Azurdia of Guatemala, Nancy Azurdia of West Newton and Byron Azurdia and his wife Maria Cedeno of Waltham, his cherished grandchildren Beatriz and her husband Pablo, Jose, Cindy, Heily, Victor, Steven, Ashley, Brian, Giselle, and Byron “Chino”, and his dears siblings Maria Perez of Somerville, Margarita Azurdia of Revere and Alberto Azurdia of Allston. In addition he is survived by many adoring nieces & nephews and close friends. Loving father of the late Jorge Ernesto Azurdia and brother of the late Carlos Azurdia. Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Jose’s life from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday, December 6th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a Mass of Catholic Burial at Saint Mary’s Church, 145 School Street, Waltham on Wednesday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect Street in Waltham. El día jueves 1ro de Diciembre del 2,016 Jose Ernesto de la ciudad de Waltham falleció a la edad de 75 años. El nació el 23 de febrero de 1,941 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Hijo de Alfredo Azurdia† y Gregoria Mazariegos viuda de Azurdia †, Jose inmigró a los Estados Unidos a la edad de 44 años y residió en la ciudad de Allston/Brighton en Boston, también viviendo en Brookline y finalmente en Waltham desde el año 2,000. El 26 de noviembre de 1,966 unió su vida en matrimonio con su alma gemela y el amor de su vida Margarita. El pasado sábado, 26 de noviembre del presente año rodeado de familia y amigos renovaron votos celebrando sus 50 años de matrimonio. Juntos, cantaron y bailaron como lo hicieron durante todos estos años. Jose Ernesto es recordado por su valentía, por nunca darse por vencido y por siempre llevar una sonrisa en su rostro. Él era fanático del futbol, jugó en su juventud en varios equipos siendo él, dueño de uno de ellos; fanático del equipo de Barcelona y de la selección de Argentina. Fue campeón de billar, le encantaba jugar solitario por horas y jugar cartas con sus nietos y su sobrino Selvin, quien era muy adorado por Jose. Jose deja a su amada esposa Margarita Quiroa de Azurdia, sus amados hijos Lilian “Lucky” Azurdia de Waltham, Ingrid Azurdia de Guatemala, Jorge Ernesto Azurdia†, Nancy Azurdia de West Newton y Byron Azurdia y su amada esposa Maria Cedeno de Waltham; sus adorados y consentidos nietos Beatriz y su esposo Pablo, Jose, Cindy, Heily, Victor “Vititior”, Steven, Ashley, Brian, Giselle, and Byron “Chino”; sus queridos hermanos Carlos Azurdia†, Maria Pérez de Somerville, Margarita Azurdia de Revere y Alberto Azurdia de Allston. También a sus adorados sobrinos, sobrinos nietos y queridos amigos. Se oficiara una misa de cuerpo presente el día miércoles 7 de diciembre a las 10:00 am en Saint Mary’s Church, 145 School Street, Waltham; saliendo en cortejo fúnebre hacia el cementerio Mount Feake, 203 Prospect Street in Waltham.
