Maria Rosa (Defina) Umina died Jan 7, 2017 in her home in Waltham, surrounded by family. She was 87 years old. Maria was born on Feb 4, 1929, in Buenos Aries Argentina, to Joseph and Concetta Defina. There she met and married her husband of 52 years, Salvatore, who had moved his family there at the end of WW II. In 1955 they moved to America with their 2 year old son. Maria was a seamstress at Sampson Altman in Waltham until retirement. She leaves her sons Albert Umina and his wife Andrea of Waltham, Salvatore of Marlborough and Joseph of Waltham. She also leaves her devoted daughter Maria of Waltham. She is the loving Nanna to 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings in Buenos Aries, Perla Sorentino, Joseph Defina and Anthony Defina. She is predeceased by her sister Angela Folino. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons, 773 Moody St., Waltham, Thursday at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Maria's life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty. Donations may be made in Maria's name to Children's Hosp Boston or St Jude's Hosp.
