William Greenawalt Obituary

William “Bill” M. Greenawalt, 78, of Coldwater, Mi., passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 unexpectedly at his home. William was born July 15, 1938 to Ralph and Charlotte (Hoyt) Greenawalt in Toledo. After graduation from DeVilbiss High School in 1957, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked 28 years as a Lieutenant for the Toledo Fire Department spending most of his early days at Station #15 on Fearing St. and retired in 1989 from Station #14 on Reynolds Rd. Bill married Kaye (Carlson) in Toledo in 1975. Together, they owned and operated The Mitered Corner, one of Toledo’s first Do-it-yourself picture framing stores. They moved to Coldwater, Michigan in the late 90’s to enjoy retirement. Bill had many interests in his life. He was quite an accomplished woodworker having built the fixtures for all 3 frame stores as well as a vintage canoe, countless tables, and furniture. He enjoyed living on the lake, any kind of fishing, and was an accomplished gardener. Bill was a proud member of the Coldwater ELKS Lodge, a past President of both the North Chain Lake Association as well as the Branch County Master Gardeners. He was also a member of the North Chain Yacht Club as well as Coldwater Garden Club. Bill will be remembered as a generous, kind, caring, and soft-spoken man. Bill is survived by his children Bruce C. Greenawalt (Becky Reidy) of Toledo and Sarah Greenawalt-Trimble of Port Richie, FL; his brother Ralph “Bud” Greenawalt of Toledo; his sister Betty Kern of Florida; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and his cats “Claude” & “Oscar”. He was preceded in death by parents and his wife Kaye. In following William’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date. The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to CHC Cancer Center, Naomi Davis Shelter House, or the Humane Society of Branch County. www.dutcherfh.com
