George Perry Obituary

George W. Perry, age 92, of Pentwater passed away Monday, November 22, 2016. He was born April 9, 1924 to Orel and Zorelda (Hershberger) Perry, the youngest of five children. George graduated from Walkerville High School. He went to work at Kaydon Engineering in Muskegon. He soon entered the Army Air Force in 1942. He served in the China, Burma, India Campaign with the 20th bomber Command of the 20th Air Force during World War II. He did his medical training at the University of Georgia and served with the 224th Medical Team. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Evelyn Richardson of Walkerville. Together they raised three children, Thomas, Vicki and Tamera. George stayed busy serving in his community. He was a member of numerous organizations, including the VFW, American Legion and Elks Club; where he made many friends. He started a restaurant in Walkerville and later became an owner of a propane company in Hart. He eventually built a Mobile Gas Station in Hart and formed the Oceana Doge and Chrysler Agency. George loved working in real estate, oil and land development. He and Evelyn did a lot of traveling in their sixties. George enjoyed wood carving and antique collecting in his spare time. He has a collection of wood working tools and logging equipment on display at the Historical District in Hart. After sixty years of marriage Evelyn passed away. George fulfilled his bucket list traveling to Alaska with his daughter and two nieces. He took part in the flights to Washington DC, honoring Vets of World War II. He enjoyed visiting his favorite coffee shops and having lunch at the Senior Center. George enjoyed the company of his family and friends and will be greatly missed. George is survived by his daughters: Vicki TenBrink of New Era and Tamera (Victor) Salazar of Hart; grandchildren: Tad (Leana) TenBrink of Muskegon, Chris (Amy) TenBrink of New Era, Devin Salazar of Mears and Lara Salazar of Grand Rapids; great grandchildren: Booke TenBrink, Zack TenBrink, Grace TenBrink, Emma TenBrink and Ethan TenBrink; also, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; son: Thomas; older brothers: Max and Ralph and sisters: Vergie and Fleta and son in-law: Jack Tenbrink. There will be a memorial service held in memory of George on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00 at the United Methodist Church in Hart. A time of fellowship and lunch will be shared directly following the service. Memorial Contributions may be directed to United Methodist Church of Hart, Hart Historical District, Hart VFW or American Legion.
