<p>Leatha “Lea” Jane Smiertelny</p><p><br></p><p> Leatha “Lea” Jane Smiertelny, age 77 of Ludington, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday December 22, 2016 at Largo Medical Center in Largo, FL. </p><p> Leatha Woodrick was born on January 5, 1939, in Michigan City, IN, daughter of the late Lloyd and Antonette (Kintzele) Woodrick. She attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Michigan City, IN and attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN. She married Vincent Smiertelny on January 10, 1959. </p><p> Lea was a stay at home mom when the children were young, your typical "Susie Homemaker", cooking, canning, sewing, knitting &amp; crocheting. Once the kids were in school she went back to work. Lea &amp; Vince owned Smert's Tavern in Michigan City, IN. In 1972 they moved to Pentwater, MI where they owned &amp; operated Smert's Resort on Bass Lake. In 1974, Lea got her Real Estate License and in 1980 she opened her own Real Estate Co, Three Lakes Realty &amp; Land Co.</p><p> Lea is survived by her husband Vincent Smiertelny of Pentwater; three children, Marietta “Etta” Brown of Clearwater, FL, Jane (Tim) Pomeroy of Ludington and Vincent Smiertelny, II, of Pentwater; grandchildren, Ryan (Sherrylynn) Brown, Janie (Anthony) Rodriguez, Eric (AnneMarie) Pomeroy, Jessica (Corey) Fellows and Luke (Hannah) Pomeroy; great-grandchildren, Katie, Tim and Charlie Pomeroy and Kendra DeRosia; great-great-granddaughter, Noella DeRosia; brother, Lloyd Woodrick; sister-in-laws, Sally Woodrick, Judy Smiertelny and Virg Litz; and several nieces &amp; nephews.</p><p> She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Adam Brown; and brother, Edwin Woodrick. </p><p> The funeral mass of Christian Burial for Lea will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday January 11, 2017 at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Wayne Wheeler celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00AM until time of funeral mass at the church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.</p><p> Memorial contributions in memory of Lea may be directed to any Breast Cancer Awareness or Research Organization. Leatha “Lea” Jane Smiertelny, age 77 of Ludington, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday December 22, 2016 at Largo Medical Center in Largo, FL.

Leatha Woodrick was born on January 5, 1939, in Michigan City, IN, daughter of the late Lloyd and Antonette (Kintzele) Woodrick.
