Jack Fletcher Obituary

Jack Bentley Fletcher, age 82, died the early morning of October 31, 2016 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in the presence of his family. Family will receive friends from 9-10:15 a.m., with funeral service at 10:30 a.m., both held on Friday, November 4, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6308 Quivera Road, Shawnee, KS 66216, with burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Jack was born February 16, 1934 in Lawrence, KS to Melvin Andrew and Hattie May (Dunkley) Fletcher. After graduation from Lawrence High School with the class of 1951, he served in the United States Air Force from 1953 – 1957. After honorable discharge, he worked at the Federal Aviation Administration as assistant systems engineer. Jack met Frances Brunner at an aerobics class, and they married at Grace Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas on January 7, 1995. They began their very happy marriage, appropriately enough, by honeymooning at Disneyland. Jack, never having married before, settled easily into the role of instant grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed traveling with Frances and taking care of his loved ones. He never missed his grandkids’ sporting events, and also relished watching the Jayhawks or the Royals with his family. Preceding Jack in death are his parents and grandson, Justin Hachinsky. Left behind to grieve, yet celebrate the gift of Jack’s life are his wife and best friend, Frances; children, David Hachinsky of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kevin Hachinsky (wife, Leslie) of Lynn Valley, KS, Annette Stithem, of Nashville, TN, Shaun Hachinsky (wife, Denise) of Independence, MO, Skip Brunner (wife, Jan) of Basehor, KS, Brian Hachinsky (partner, Lisa Price) of Kansas City, KS, and Kathy Pluff (husband, Joe) of Merriam, KS; 26 grandchildren; 35, great-grandchildren; numerous friends, cousins, and extended family, with special mention of his cousin Bryan and Susan Sanders of Lawrence, KS. As for your extended family we give thanks, that your journey through life allowed your path to cross ours. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com.
