James May, Sr., 63, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO, 64055. A service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. James was born April 29, 1953 in Kansas City, MO to Donald and Margery May. After high school he attended several years of schooling to be a Union Sprinkler Fitter. He was a member of Local Union 314. In his free time he enjoyed watching NASCAR, camping, traveling, and making stained glass. Most of all he loved time with his family, especially the grand kids. James will be remembered by his loving wife Terri of the home; children Michele Coffey of Sibley, MO, Wendi Graves-Ayres and David Ayres of Lees Summit, MO, Terri May of Kansas City, MO, James May, Jr. and wife Stephanie of Independence, MO; grandchildren C.C. Ray Koontz, Tyler Gurley, Tyler Ayres, Tristyn Richardson, Taylor May, Harold Lee Chitwood, Elijah Siems, and James May III; a great-grandson Braxton Gurley; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson Ryker Gurley. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
