Alfred Watson

Alfred Merl Watson, 76, formerly of Independence, MO died Jan. 15, 2017. Services will be 2 pm, Sat., Jan. 21 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO; cremation. Visitation will begin at 1 pm before the service at the chapel. Merl was a successful independent business owner of several small businesses, from reupholstering furniture, retail craft stores, and wholesale gifts, which led him to traveling throughout Asia in the 1980s and 1990s. Within five years of founding Creative Home Collections in 1982, it was listed on the INC 500 List of fastest growing companies in the U.S. Merl was an active member in his church community and served as an elder at the Raymore Church of Christ in the 1980s. He enjoyed coaching softball, fishing, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family. He also had a love for dogs. Merl will always be remembered for his warm smile and kind heart. . Merl was preceded in death by a son Timothy B. Watson. He is survived by son Darren Watson and wife Stacey, Stilwell, KS; daughter Amie Farkas and husband Matt, Ann Arbor, MI; brother Avis Watson and wife Kay, Raytown, MO and four grandchildren.
