Richard Duane Holm (Dick) 86, of Independence Mo, passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 3, 2017, at K.C. Hospice. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Grandview Mo. Community of Christ Church, 12600 Byars Rd., Grandview, MO 64030. Irene McCoun and Larry Martin officiating. Visitation will be held following the service. Burial will be at Higginsville Veteran's Cemetery at a later date as Dick donated his body to K.U. Medical Center. Dick was born December 4, 1930, in Provo, Utah. Then, in Kansas City, as Central High School Senior Class and Student Council president he was proud to be selected Mayor for the Day in a citywide contest. Dick was also a member of the basketball team. Dick studied at CMSU and KU. Richard was married to Darlene Mae Wallace on June 15, 1951. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. Dick was a Car Dealership owner of Dick Holm Ford (Branson) and Dick Holm Chevrolet Cadillac (Holden and Warrensburg). Dick was also in insurance sales at Universal Underwriters. He was also Children's Group Home Manager in Topeka and cared for many foster children. Dick was AFC in the United States Air Force as a Cryptographer. Dick enjoyed sports, city farming, boating, garage sales, vacations, family sporting events and activities. He used his keen sense of humor to endear himself to family and others. He enjoyed helping children and people improve their lives. Dick was a member of the Community of Christ Church. Dick was (President) of Lion's Club, Holden City Council and a Home Association. He also served as a Scoutmaster, youth leader and helped start Father's Relief Corp. He had many other community and church endeavors. Richard is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, David (Samellen) Holm, daughter, Sherri (Rick) Halstead, daughter, Jean Holm; Grandchildren, Ronald Holm, Jennifer (Clint Borgstadt), Steven (Cortney) Holm; great grandchildren, Kellielynn, Elijah, Anna, Hadley, Hannah, Levi, Landon, Lilyann and Thomas; A sister, Eleanor Sandy, brother, W.F "Bill" (Judy) Holm; Sister-In-Law, Diane Holm and many other family and friends, as well as, a beloved pet, Chiquita. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Audrey (Winn) Holm; sister, Geraldine Hoch, brother, Robert E. Holm and cousin, Gene Rigney.
