Bob Giertz, 73, of Independence, MO passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Cremation with a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Zarahemla Restoration Branch, 502 SW 17th St., Blue Springs, MO 64015. Bob was born in Girard, KS to Robert E. and Augusta M. Giertz. He graduated from Wichita North High School, followed by enrollment at Kansas City Junior College, enlistment in the United States Air Force and finished his education at Emporia State Teachers College. He married Barbara Ann Williams on March 4, 1966. He retired from the medical field after over 30 years of service with multiple agencies and hospitals, including 26 years as Clinical Laboratory Supervisor. Early in his career, her served as a reserve officer in the Kansas City, KS Police Department, and he also served as a volunteer officer/EMT with the police department, county sheriff and Ambulance service of Kingman, KS. Bob was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was very active in his church with a tremendous desire to lead people to Jesus Christ. He’s given ministry throughout the United States and taken mission trips to Australia, Germany and Nigerian. He planted many seeds for Christ in the hearts of people over the last 40 years. His hobbies included scripture study, reading and traveling with friends and family. He will always be remembered for his warm heart sweet smile and his ability to bring people together. Bob will be remembered by his loving wife Barbara Giertz, of Independence, MO, a step brother, Dean Daniels of Cleveland, MS; a son, James Giertz and wife Sonja of Talala, OK; grandchildren Kassidy Hamilton and husband Braden of Claremore, OK and Kailyn and Carson Giertz. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1965, his father in 1988, and his step mother, Lola Breiner Giertz in 2011.
