Shannon Dale Craven Sr., 72, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away February 18, 2017. A visitation will be held 9:00-10:00am Wednesday, February 22nd with a service following at 10:00am at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow at Buckner Hill Cemetery, Buckner, MO. Shannon was born October 2, 1944 in Kansas City, MO, and chosen (adopted) by William and Fern (deRuelle) Craven to be their beloved son. He graduated a football star from Fort Osage High School and held the record for most passing yards for 11 years. On July 3, 1970, he married his sweetheart, Cindy. Shannon retired in 1999, after spending 33 years with the Independence Police Department in dedicated service to the people of Independence. He loved to spend his time with his family, playing golf, riding his motorcycle, and playing cards with his grandson. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, of the home; children, Staci Plumberg of Blue Springs, Amy Blakely and her husband Cleve of Kansas City, MO, and Shannon Craven Jr., also of Kansas City; grandchildren, Crystal Hooper, Dianne Denmark and her husband Oley, Heather Craven, Kristen Woolery, Skylar Plumberg, Katelyn Milligan and her husband, Lance, Kayla Smith and her husband, Tyler, and Jeremiah Blakely; great-grandchildren, Eli Denmark, Makayla Denmark, Elijah Thompson, Brookelyn Smith, Sadie Smith, and coming soon, Asher Milligan; sister, Eunice; and his nephew, Wesley. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved pet, Buddy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, PO Box 97075, Washington DC 20077-7258 or mda.org.
