Doyle Horton

Doyle M. Horton 67, Lamar, MO passed away at his home Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Doyle was born January 12, 1949 in Lamar, Mo to Bobby Joe and Kathleen Williams Horton. He attended Lamar Schools graduating in 1967. After graduation he was active 4 years in the Navy aboard the USS San Diego. When he returned home from the service he entered the family business with his parents; Horton’s Dime Store till it closed in 1994, then he started working at Horton's Jewelry Store with his brother Mark, he worked there until he retired in 2014. He married Maureen “Mickie” Myers March 30, 1968 she preceded him in death in 1996. He married Melinda Bates April 12, 2010 in Lamar, MO. Doyle enjoyed his family and attending his grandchildren’s programs and events, fishing, woodworking, meeting up with the “donut shop” gang, watching Nascar and cheering on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, JR. He liked to sit in his chair by the window and play his guitar. He was a member of United Methodist Church and Odd Fellows of Lamar. He is survived by his wife Melinda, mother Kathleen, daughter Bobbi Anne Jeffries; all of Lamar, MO, sons; James Horton (Miranda); Kansas City, KS, Nick Horton (Phaedra); Jeffersonville, IN, grandchildren; Ariel, Adrianna, Aliya, Aileen, Anastasia, Trinity, Samantha, Paxton, Dylan and Caleb Horton and Maddie and Wyatt Jeffries, brother Mark Horton; Olathe, KS, sister Vickie Bilke (Dave); Joplin, MO, brother-in-law Walter Bates (Sheri); Golden City, MO and a sister-in-law Babette Hosier (Ed); Nixa, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife Mickie; mother of his children, an infant son Damian Michael, father Bobby Horton, a granddaughter Kirsten Paige Jeffries and a sister-in-law Brenda Horton.
