Rodney Overman

Rodney Overman, 76, of Liberal, MO passed away Monday July 18 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg KS. He was born March 11, 1940 in Lamar, MO to William Glen Overman and Crystal Anna (Royer) Overman. He was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church. He graduated Liberal High School in 1958. Rodney and Rose Ann Smith were married October 2, 1960 at the Nashville Christian Church. Together they raised 2 children, Howard and Shellie. Rodney loved farming and was always open to new innovative farming practices. He was the first to try double cropping in the area. He was very active in the farming community and was a member of Lamar Young Farmers and made many friends tractor pulling and also good memories with Howard. He was a Cargill Seed dealer for over 40 years and was on the board for Farm Bureau, Nashville Township and Nashville Cemetery and a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed music and dancing the 2-step with Rose Ann. During his stay at Via Christi Village he was very active and was involved in all the activities he volunteered as a reading mentor in Pittsburg Schools. The students were very fond of him and learned to read with his help. Through all of his life he never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he traveled. Rodney is survived by his wife Rose Ann, son Howard and wife Tracy, and daughter Shellie Blevens, 3 grandchildren; Taylor Overman and wife Brooke, Brandon Overman, Ashley Cole and husband Jakeob.
