Roy Logsden

Chief Roy Lee Logsden of Potosi, Missouri was born on June 3, 1945 in San Luis Obispo, California and departed this life on December 6, 2016 at his residence having reached the age of seventy-one years, six months and three days. Roy was united in marriage to Betty R. McColloch on March 28, 1970 at White Oak Grove Church in Shirley, Missouri. Roy is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Betty Ruth Logsden of Potosi, Missouri; three sons, Roy Logsden and wife, Renee of Potosi, Missouri; D.J. Logsden of Potosi, Missouri; Jarrod Logsden and wife, Adrianne of Potosi, Missouri; three daughters, Laura Logsden of Potosi, Missouri; Tammy Thompson and husband, Jason of Potosi, Missouri; DeAnna Logsden of Potosi, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren: Megan, Lindsey, Morgan, Devin, Dylan, Madalyn, Kallee, Kendall, J.R., Dylan, Abbey, Lauren, Jaiden and Remington; two great-grandchildren, Khloe and Ahri; one sister, Betty JoAnne Stotler of Potosi, Missouri; aunts, Jane McMillen of Caledonia, Missouri; Edith Birmingham of DeSoto, Missouri; Mildred Welker of Caledonia; his first wife, Betty Ann Logsden of Potosi, Missouri; many other special family members, many dear and special friends and many police officers and other public servants. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie (Beers) Logsden, his father, Ellis Coplin; two brothers, Abraham Walter “Waldo” Logsden and Richard Dale Logsden. Roy served his country in the United States Army, being drafted during his early years as Police Chief. While serving he served as a Military Policeman, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged. Chief Roy loved serving his community in law enforcement, he served as the Chief of Police for 39 years. He owned and operated the Lakeview Restaurant for many years. Roy enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fixing up old cars and trucks. Roy never gave a second thought to a call for help, a citizen in need or just being there to listen. His life was centered on public service. He gave many hours of his time to the community and his fellow officers, he was always so proud of his officers and respected each of them. His tenure with the City of Potosi saw many good changes and brought safety to all. Roy was a pillar of the community who will forever be remembered for his hard work and dedication he so selflessly gave. Visitation was held Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Friday, December 9, 2016 from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moore Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri. A Funeral Service was held Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Moore Memorial Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Brother Jeff Richards officiating. Final Prayers and Burial took place in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri where Roy received full military honors consisting of a firing party, taps, folding and presentation of the American Flag. Serving as pallbearers were: Mal Gum, Michael Gum, Zach Jacobsen, Kelly Eye, Chris Harmon, Eddie Graves, Andy Skiles and Curt Dzuba. Memorials may be directed to the City of Potosi (Logsden Scholarship) 121 East High Street, Potosi, MO 63664. Moore Funeral Homes was honored to have been selected to serve Roy, his family and friends.
