Jewell Cannady Obituary

Jewell Alvanee Cannady, 94, of Springfield, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, after battling Alzheimer’s disease. Jewell was born April 23, 1922, in Nixa, Missouri. She was the youngest child of Martha Jane (Sparkman) and James Inman. She was a proud 1941 graduate of Springfield High School. Jewell was united in marriage to the love of her life, Floyd Cannady, on November 30, 1945. After her husband tragically predeceased her in death in May of 1957, Jewell courageously went on to raise her two young sons, alone. Following the death of her husband, Jewell went to work fulltime in the cafeteria at Parkview High School, for 16 years. She then went on to work at Cox Hospital for 20 years, where she met many lifelong friends, until retiring in 1987 at the age of 65. Jewell was a faithful and active member of High Street Baptist Church, where she served for over 60 years. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her best friend and niece, Midge Murphy; spending time in her flower garden while bird watching; and, was self-taught in quilt making, which she loved to do for family and friends. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and James Inman; seven siblings, Mary Inman, Jimmy Inman, Florence Inman, Porter Inman, Lewis Inman, Jack Inman and Pete Inman; her beloved husband, Floyd Cannady; and her oldest son, Danny Cannady. She is survived by her youngest son, Bobby Cannady of Springfield; her daughter-in-law of 52 years, Anita Cannady; granddaughters, Dana Havens and her husband Rich Havens, of Nixa; Chrissy Brower and her husband Shawn Brower, of Springfield; one great-grandson, Jared Wright, of Springfield; three step-great granddaughters; and one step-great-great grandson; plus numerous nieces and nephews. As well as a myriad of friends. All those who loved and knew her will miss her. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Greenlawn South, Springfield. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 12:30 p.m., in the chapel at Greenlawn South; with burial to follow at the National Cemetery, Springfield.
