Irvin Leon Heldt was born on November 9, 1926 on the family farm south of Yutan, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm, attended grade school in town and graduated from Yutan High School in 1944. As a young boy, Irvin spent a great deal of time working but in his spare time he enjoyed riding his pony and participating in sports especially baseball and basketball. He continued playing town team sports for quite some time. Irvin served in World War II as an MP stationed in Italy.
Irvin married Lois Jordan on January 16, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan, Nebraska and to this union two sons were born: Steven and Rick. Irvin and Lois have made their home on the same farm that Irvin was born and raised. Irvin farmed for a while but went to work for the Nebraska Department of Roads as an inspector. Irvin enjoyed trap shooting, bowling, dancing and watching television. He liked to help with canning and grocery shopping. Irvin and Lois were blessed to celebrate their 50th Anniversary in 1999. Irvin cherished his family, the farm and sharing a “good time’ with friends. He was a member of the Yutan American Legion, Yutan V.F.W., Elkhorn Eagles, St. John’s Lutheran Church and was involved with the committee to consolidate the rural and public schools.
