Kathryn was born at Merritt Township, Michigan, on June 12, 1924 to Fred and Eva (Foss) Asmus, Germans from Russia, immigrants to the United States. A tribute to her parents and parental influence. Both applied for, studied, passed and were sworn in as citizens. Two of Kathryn\\\'s older brothers served in the U.S Army in WWII and a younger brother served in Korea. All were honorably discharged. According to sources considered reliable, Fred and Eva\\\'s exploration of possible passage on the ill-fated Titanic was unsuccessful. Thank God.
Kathryn moved to Nebraska with her parents when she was 6 years old because they wished to farm. She attended schools in rural Scottsbluff County. She returned to Michigan, living with an older sister and her family while working at Chevrolet Factory division of General Motors during the war. She returned to Nebraska to help her family on the farm, also working in the potato cellar or laundry in Scottsbluff. She met and dated Carl Schneider. They were married on February 28, 1948 in Bayard, NE. The couple made their home at Carl\\\'s family farm/ranch near Redington. Five sons were born to the marriage. Kathryn was always busy cooking, baking, cleaning and helping on the farm where needed. She enjoyed being a teachers helper at District 11 School and a school bus driver for Bridgeport District 63 and a 4-H project leader, helping with Bible School, Camp Rock, and Willing Workers Ladies Club. She attended Redington Church. Kathryn had a profound love for her boys and their families and was a shining example of a wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, friend, and citizen. Kathryn survived triple bypass open heart surgery and breast cancer. She was a member of St. Paul\\\'s Lutheran Church.
