A resident of Laconia, NH for more than 55 years, Helen passed away peacefully on January 30th in the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, N.H. where she comfortably spent the final year of her 92-year life well lived. Married 41 years to the late Stephen Contons, she leaves behind her son Stephen and wife Theresa of Concord, MA, daughter Kathy Kisala and husband Tony of Lansdale, PA, son Robert and wife Janice of Santa Barbara, CA, and grandchildren James and Jon Grant of Orlando and Kissimmee, FL. Helen was a long term member of the Laconia Women's and Garden Clubs and for years worked with her husband in the yard goods department of the former J.J. Newberry Company in downtown Laconia, a store he managed for 26 years that is now occupied by the Laconia Antique Center. A mother of many talents, she was an accomplished seamstress creating numerous quilts, afghans, sweaters, scarves, hats, and gloves, hooked and braided rugs, and crocheted pieces that will continue to be enjoyed by many for years to come. She is certainly the only fan to catch a Steve Garvey home run ball hit to Dodger Stadium's left field that literally landed in her lap while she was knitting. A Memorial Mass will be offered for Helen on Sunday, March 5 at 11 AM in St. Peter Lithuanian Church, 75 Flaherty Way, South Boston, MA followed by a luncheon reception in the lower Church Hall.
