Jean M. Van Pelt, 66 of Oceanport, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Sparta, she had lived in Long Branch before moving to Oceanport in 1992. Jean was a secretary for the Long Branch Board of Education for 24 years before retiring in 2015. She was a parishioner of St. Michael’s R.C. Church in West End, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her parents, John and June Ronovitz. Surviving are her husband, Artie Van Pelt; her daughter, Catherine Van Pelt-Shok and her wife, Allison Shok; 2 sisters, Joanne Chattaway and Julie Andreasen; 2 sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Pingitore and Rabbine Harpell and many nieces and nephews Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. Funeral, Thursday, 10 am from the funeral home with a 11 am Mass at St. Michael’s Church, Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of NJ, 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
