Fern Hay was born March 19, 1930 in Littlefield, TX to the home of Elizabeth and George C. Anderson and died at her home on August 22, 2013. Fern grew up in Fort Sumner, NM, and graduated from high school there. She worked for General Telephone in Littlefield for a time, and then for Bell Telephone in Colorado Springs, CO and later Roswell, NM.
On December 4, 1954 in Fort Sumner, she was married to George Hay. Together they worked to establish and develop their ranch at Pep. Fern was a member of the Methodist Church, as well as the Pep and Milnesand Homemakers Clubs. She was an excellent cook, but worked with George so much that she had little time for other things.
She is survived by George Hay, her husband of nearly 59 years of the ranch; a daughter, Jeanette Bass of Pep; two grandsons, Bryan (Adell) Bass and Derek Bass; a brother, Douglas Anderson of Gaston, IN and three sisters, Frances Nahlosky and Blanche Boyd both of Fort Sumner, NM and Wanda Mechnig of Roswell, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Mose J., Carl and Joe Anderson, six sisters, L. G. Sinclair, Eva Teal, Thelma Anderson, Jewel Sasser, Mae Hodge and Dorothy Newman, and by her son, Worth Hay, who died October 17, 1998.
