Funeral services for Floretta "Posie" Wright, 92, who was currently living at Retirement Ranch in Clovis will be held at 2:00 PM, Fri., Jan. 6, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Leslie Tibbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with James Beeson, Bruce Beeson, David Beeson, Tyson Stockard, Larry Hale, Isaac Cundiff and Leslie Thomas serving as pallbearers. Floretta Wright, known to virtually everyone as "Posie," was born Aug. 1, 1924 in Pearce, AZ to the home of Etta (Thompson) and Arthur Isaac Pointer, and died Jan. 3, 2017 in Clovis, NM. Mrs. Wright grew up at Elfrida, AZ, and graduated from high school there in 1942. She met Roy Wright on a blind date, and they were married in Warren, AZ on Nov. 7, 1942. Shortly after they married, they moved to O'Donnell, TX where they both worked on a ranch. They later moved to Roswell, and then to Portales in 1949. In 1962, they moved to Fort Sumner. In 1965 she and her family moved to Canyon, TX where she was the school librarian at a an elementary school. In 1979 they returned to Portales, and made their home east of town. In 1980, Mrs. Wright went to work as Librarian at the Portales Public Library. She retired in 1989. For about ten years she lived at Golden Acres, and recently had been at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. Mrs. Wright enjoyed flower gardening, and playing cards and dominoes. She also liked watching the Dallas Cowboys as well as the Texas Rangers and the Chicago Cubs. She knew all of the players names and their stats. Anybody who came to visit "Posie" was always given a coke. Mrs. Wright had a very special little dog, Muffin, that finally had to be put down after 18 years. Soon after, she was given another dog, Cash, and he instantly became her devoted companion. Mrs. Wright is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Jim VanWinkle of Ruidoso, NM, Glenda and Frank Fields of Liberty Hills, TX and Susie and David Thomas of Milnesand, NM; a son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Kathy Wright of Durant, OK; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Uldean Barkman of Mesa, AZ; and a very special sister-in-law, Mary Alice Jewell of Elida, NM, as well as by her beloved dog, Cash. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Dick Pointer, Ike Pointer and Fred Jewell, a sister, Bessie Jarrett, a grandson and a great-granddaughter, and by her husband, Roy Wright, who died Sept. 26, 1988.
