Diane J. Marsh Obituary

Diane J. Marsh, of Oatka St., Warsaw, passed away peacefully Tuesday October 25, 2016 in Wyoming County Nursing Facility, Warsaw, at the age of 80. She was born April 12, 1936 in Buffalo a daughter of the late George Sheldon and Mildred Helen (nee Sager) Moden. She was a 1953 graduate of Bliss High School and was a loving mother, grandmother, gramma-gramma, sister, aunt and friend. In her early years, she worked in Buffalo as a telephone operator. She began working for the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office in the late 1970's and worked there in either a part-time or full-time capacity until retiring in 1998. She started there as a matron in the jail, and went on to work as the jail cook, civil office clerk and 911 dispatcher. In the late 1960's she joined the Bliss Fire Department and Rescue Squad as one of the first female members of any department in Wyoming County. She was a dedicated volunteer to the department and spent many hours answering calls, working the table at the auction and preparing salads for the annual card party. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and taught first aid classes and had served for a time on the Wyoming-Erie Regional Medical Service (WERMS). She had served many years as an Inspector of Elections. She enjoyed reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, the Game Show Network and playing Bingo. She is survived by her children - Julie (Steve) Roberts of Attica, Jill Jackson of Silver Springs, Jayne (Walt) Shearing of Castile, Jack (Deanna) Marsh of Warsaw; her grandchildren - Courtney (David) Forrest, Nicholas (Katie) Roberts, Dustin Shearing, Katryna Marsh, Eric (Eryn Greene) Geercken, Cameron (Crystalyn) Marsh, Caine (Ashlee Gilchrist) Shearing, Zachary (Crystal) Marsh, Morgan (Wyatt Chittenden) Shearing; her great-grandchildren - Logan, Dante, Juliana, Drew, Jaxon, Ella Marie, Chester and twins expected in Spring 2017; her sister - Janet Schmauss of North Tonawanda and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings - Sheldon, Shirley, Richard and Robert Moden and her granddaughter - Stacy Marie Geercken. Friends may call Friday October 28, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at W. S. Davis Funeral Home, Inc., 358 W. Main St., Arcade, where funeral services will be held Saturday October 29, 2016 at 11 am.
