Elizabeth Vassari Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Vassari, 84, an area resident since 1968 and previously of Eastchester, died peacefully on January 30, 2017 at home following a long illness which she faced with courage and grace. Born on March 23, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, Betty was the daughter of Michael J. and Nellie (McAuliffe) Dalton. On October 24, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Kansas City, Missouri, Betty married Nicholas J. Vassari who predeceased her on August 27, 2006. Betty was the owner of Dalton Travel in Wappingers Falls. She had also worked for IBM, and then in her later years she lovingly offered home care to the elderly. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church where she was a member of the Widow and Widowers Club. She was also a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernian Ladies, and was very involved in many various community activities. Survivors include her sons and their wives, Nicholas and Bernadette Vassari of LaGrange, John and Camille Vassari of Hopewell Junction, and William Vassari of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Philip, Marissa, Michael and his fiancé Kacie Ging, Erica, and Brandon; and her great-grandchildren, Denver and Quince. In addition to her husband, Betty was predeceased by her son Robert Michael Vassari on October 27, 1998; and her siblings, Michael, Jack, Eileen, Josephine, Sr. Mary Catherine, Margaret and Catherine. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Irene Tracey for her dedication and support and to the Hospice staff. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
