Michael Smith Obituary

Michael E. Smith, 53, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 26 years and formerly of Queens Village, New York, died on November 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Queens on April 7, 1963, he was the son of John and Marianne Kasten Smith. Michael was an IT manager and consultant for Fidelity National Information Services. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. Michael was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated himself entirely to the support of his children, and enthusiastically encouraged them in all of their endeavors: crew races, school plays, concerts, and more. On his own time, he was an avid Yankees fan, a fervent cyclist, and had a passion for history and pop culture. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends. On July 7, 1989 at St. Gregory the Great Church in Bellerose, New York, Michael married Patricia Geraghty who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Mike, Megan, and Joey Smith; his beloved dog, Harley; his siblings and their spouses, Robert and Joanne Smith of Stamford, CT, John Smith of New Hyde Park, and Sharon and John Cross of Lake Ronkonkoma; his mother in law and father in law, Timothy and Bridget Geraghty of Bellerose; his brothers in law and sisters in law; Seamus and Pam Geraghty of Bellerose, and Sheila and Peter Maiorano of North Merrick; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister in law Peggy Smith, and his brother in law, Timothy Geraghty. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
