Obituary
Ileana Mary Henry was born on July 8, 1928 to the late Edward Henry and Essie Lawrence Henry. She passed away on November 18, 2016. Preceding her in death was niece Karen Henry. She was born in Manhattan, New York and grew up in the area known as San Juan Hill with her only sibling Clairemont. They were the offspring of West Indian immigrants who met and married in New York. Lena as she was called by family and friends was a smart child and she advanced through school rapidly. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hunter College. She worked briefly in a private Lab before going on to teach General Science and Biology at Newtown HS in Flushing. Lena continued her education and received Master Degrees in Education and Guidance. She retired from Newtown HS as a Guidance Counselor. During her studies at Hunter College, Lena was active in sports and was a member of the Field Hockey team. Her interest in sports continued on after school as she became involved with tennis both as a fan and participant. Lena lived a very cultured life and visited museums, art galleries, theaters, and music venues. She believed in the arts and contributed donations for their continued success. Traveling was one of Lena's greatest joy. During her lifetime she made many trips to Europe, Africa, South and Central America, the Caribbean, China and Russia to name a few. Lena leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her brother Clairemont Henry (Doretha) of Jamaica, NY; nieces Ingrid Reid of Richmond, VA, Sheila Bryant of Greensboro, NC, Priscilla Jacobs (Lawrence) of Houston, TX; grandnephews Dorik Tiller, Daryl Tiller, and Lawson Jacobs; grandnieces Pierette Wyatt (Bobby), and Colette Jarvis (Winston); great grandnephews Marquis, Benjamin and Jamir and great grandnieces Nala, Laila and Aliyah. Cousins Beverly Walton and Darrell Hazelwood; Steven Tiller a special friend and a host of friends and former co-workers.
