Joseph Miller Obituary

Joseph P. Miller, age 87, of Kings Park passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Sunday, February 19th, 2017 at TrustBridge Hospice in Boca Raton, FL. Joseph was born March 22nd, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Raymond and Teresa. He was one of 7 children, two preceded him in death. Joseph grew up in Middle Village, Queens and moved out to Hicksville, later settling in Kings Park of Long Island, NY. As a teenager, and young adult, he was known to ride his motorcycle around the neighborhood and could easily be mistaken for Elvis Presley. Joseph joined the United States Marines when he was just 16 years old and served in China in WWII. Joseph married his childhood sweetheart, the late Charlotte (née McQuillan) Miller on February 26th, 1948. They raised 4 children together. Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph Miller of Deerfield Beach, FL, Charlotte Agostinho of Rocky Point, NY and Eileen Gulino of Ridge, NY. He is predeceased by his youngest son, Michael Miller from Deerfield Beach, FL. He has 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Joseph started his career working at Geico Insurance Company from 1964-1977. In 1977, he bought Town Line Auto Body located in Smithtown, NY in which he successfully owned and operated for 12 years. He then started Island Auto Appraisal, which he owned and operated for 25 years until retirement. Joseph was a family man, a born leader and an avid fisherman. Some of his nicknames, were, “The Chief”, and “Master Caster” to name a couple. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was loved and adored. He had friends wherever he went; everyone knew Joe. He loved boating, fishing and being out on the water. Any given season, you could find him in a wetsuit and waders casting off of Montauk Point. He loved cars and motorcycles; especially those American made. If it wasn’t made in America, Joe didn’t want it. He was a patriotic man and proud of his country. He was also a devout Catholic, spending every Sunday morning in church and was an active parishioner at St. Josephs in Kings Park. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. We will always carry your memory in our hearts. Until we meet again. “Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die.” Mary Frye, American poet
