<p>AKWESASNE – Mrs. Agnes S. Bero, affectionately known as “Grandma Bingo”,of 14 Rooseveltown Road, peacefully passed away on the morning of her 82nd birthday.</p><p><br></p><p>Agnes was born October 19, 1934 in St. Regis, Quebec, the daughter of the late Peter and Helen Sawatis Jacobs. She attended schools on St. Regis Island and in Syracuse. She worked at the Bombay Slipper Factory as a beader and sewer for many years. She and her late husband, John, also operated a Hot Dog Stand for several years. Most recently, she was the head cook at the Mohawk Senior Citizen Center, where she continued until her retirement. </p><p><br></p><p>Agnes truly loved playing bingo and cards – especially Solitaire. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles, visiting her sister in Syracuse, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Akwesasne Death Benefits and the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens.</p><p><br></p><p>Agnes is survived by her children, John and Rosie Bero of Kanawake; Leroy and Colleen Bero of Akwesasne; Carol and Mark Jacobs of Cornwall Island; Andy and Maureen Bero of Akwesasne; Kathy Herne and Luke Thompson of Cornwall Island; Timothy and Jackie Herne of Akwesasne; and Ray Herne of Akwesasne; her chosen children, Lorene Herne, Eddie Herne, and Ricky Benedict, all of Akwesasne; and Sandra Wilkinson of California; 28 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter; her sister, Mary and Robert Dufree of Cicero; and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents, Agnes was predeceased by her husband, John on February 14, 1962; her longtime companion, Richard Herne on October 4, 2015; three sons, Peter and Eugene Bero and Allen Roosa; two granddaughters, Leah and Hattie Bero; her sister, Florence Thomas; and her brothers, James, Freeman, Robert, and Donald Jacobs.</p><p><br></p><p>Friends may call at her home, 14 Rooseveltown Road, beginning 7:00 PM Thursday until 12:00 PM Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 1:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will follow in Kateri Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
