<p>MARY “MAE” THOMPSON</p><p><br></p><p>AKWESASNE - Mary “Mae” Thompson, of 41 Recreation Road, Akwesasne, peacefully passed away at her home early Thursday morning, December 22, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.</p><p><br></p><p>Mae was born October 19, 1913 on Cornwall Island, daughter of the late Mitchell and Christie Mitchell Phillips. She attended schools on Cornwall Island and married Michael B. Thompson, who predeceased her on March 4, 1995.</p><p><br></p><p>Mae was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church and a member of the Kateri Circle, a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group, the Tri-District Elders, and a former member of the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. She used to enjoy travelling with her late daughter to the Kateri Conferences.</p><p><br></p><p>She was a homemaker and cleaned for Canadian Customs for a time. She was also basket maker, made lacrosse sticks, and enjoyed quilting, cooking, playing cards and Bingo. She loved family gatherings, watching lacrosse and hockey games, and listening to music, especially The Thundertones; and visits to the cottage on Pillon Island. Many years ago, Mae also enjoyed taxiing her friends around the community.</p><p><br></p><p>Mae is survived by two daughters, Margaret and James Montour and Shirley Francis all of Cornwall Island; 13 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 65 great-great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>Besides her husband, Michael and her parents, Mae was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth M. Francis on August 30, 2003; two sisters, Elizabeth Thompson and Dorothy Phillips; and two sons-in-law, Percy Francis on July 29, 2012; and Stanley Francis on July 2, 2011.</p><p><br></p><p>Friends may call the Tri-District Elders Center on Cornwall Island beginning Monday at 2:00 PM until Wednesday at 1:00 PM, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Regis Catholic Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Spring burial will be in Kateri Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial donations may be made in Mae’s memory to the St. Regis Catholic Church.</p><p><br></p><p>Arrangements are with the Donaldson Funeral Home, where memories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonfh.com</p>
