Obituary
AKWESASNE – Mrs. Norma Jean Johnson-Arquette,54, of 120 Phillips road, passed away Saturday morning, January 7, 2017 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a lengthy illness.
Norma was born April 9, 1962 in Cornwall, the daughter of George Gray and Nancy A. Johnson. She attended schools on the Reservation and graduated from General Vanier. She continued her education into nursing school. A marriage to William Arquette ended in divorce.
Norma was a nurse within her community and later became a drug counselor for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, until her health required her to retire. She took great pride in beading, singing, doing photography work.
She is survived by her children, Donna Johnson of Akwesasne; William Arquette Jr. and his companion, Ohontsiitha “GG” Bigtree of Akwesasne; Darwin Arquette and Allianne Love of Massena; and Amanda Arquette of Akwesasne; her beloved grandchildren, Zayda, Zoran, Zaylia, Darius, Karson, Avery, Wren, William Hank, and Jace; her sisters, Joanne Johnson, Madeline Johnson, Beatrice Johnson and her companion, Bruce Tarbell, Reina Cook, Rachel and Mike Jacobs, Francine Gray, Miranda Cook, and Helen Gray; her brothers, John and Megan Gray, Hank Cook, and Thomas and Nicole Cook, all of Akwesasne; her god children, Reginald Herne Jr. and Delia Herne; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, Nancy and Raymond Cook and George and Pauline Gray; and her siblings, George G. Gray, Jr., Raymond Cook, and Barbara Ann Gray.
Friends may call at the home of her daughter, Donna, 253A McDonald Road, Snye beginning 2:00 PM Tuesday until 11:00 AM Thursday, when funeral services will be held. Cremation will follow.
