North Greenbush-Elizabeth "Betty” Isler Hedden Mahar age 81 years of Best Road passed away on Monday November 22, 2004 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. She was born in Albany and had been a resident of Rensselaer before moving to North Greenbush 53 years ago. She was a graduate of the College of St. Rose and was employed as nurse and teacher for the Rensselaer City School System. Betty was a member of Van Rensselaer Star Chapter #256 Order of the Eastern Star, the Albany Area Retired Teachers Association and the First United Methodist Church in East Greenbush. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling.
Wife of the late D. Jack Hedden and John F. Mahar; mother of Barbara (Raymond) Elliott of North Greenbush, Fred (Mary Bess) Hedden of East Greenbush, Beth (Ed) Mashmann of Albany, Michael (Jan) Mahar of State College, PA., Colleen (Paul) Thompson of North Greenbush, Frank (Paulette) Mahar of Scotia, John (Karen) Mahar of Latham and James (Lynn) Mahar of Knoxville, TN. Dear friend of James Davis of Malta. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be from the First United Methodist Church in East Greenbush (Gilligan and Hays Road) Saturday morning at 11:00. All are invited to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and call at the W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Friday from 4-8 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to the XP Society 437 Snydertown Road Craryville, NY 12521.
