Amelia V. Focht

Amelia V. Focht, age 97, of Rome, passed away on February 13, 2017 at Rome Memorial Hospital. Amelia was born in Rome on April 13, 1919 to the late Andrew and Tekla Lach Duda. She graduated from Rome Free Academy. On September 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to George M. Focht; a blessed union of 59 years until his passing on July 30, 2000. Amelia worked as an inspector at Varflex for many years until her retirement. Amelia is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Kick and her companion, Carl Whittemore, of Clinton; a son and daughter in law, George and Bonnie Focht of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Hinkleman, Roslyn and Michael Matthews, and Nathan Kick; five great grandchildren, Sage, Eva, Quinn, Arianna, and Aubree; a sister, Alice Wierzbicki; and a sister in law, Stella Duda. She was predeceased by a grandson, Gabriel Kick; two brothers, Thomas and Adolph Duda; and a sister and brother in law, Sofia and Dr. Peter Ratto. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 4 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in All Saints Polish National Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 PM, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Rome.
