Charles F. Batchelder

Charles F. Batchelder III, of Rome, left this earth Tuesday, October 11, 2016, with his wife at his side. He passed away at Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born the son of Charles Foster and Martha (Lee) Batchelder, Jr in Augusta, ME on July 1, 1930. A veteran of the Korean War (Army Signal Corps), he served in Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He wed Anita McDonald on November 8, 1952 in Walpole, MA. They had 5 children; Jane, Bruce, Gail, Paula and Charles E.. Anita passed away on September 14, 1978. Charles married Virginia Weigel in Natick, MA on July 24, 1982. Charles and Virginia moved to Rome, NY and lived a happy, peaceful life on a farm previously owned by Virginia's grandfather. Charles was predeceased by his first wife Anita and their oldest son Bruce. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Virginia; his sister Molly; his daughters Jane (Donald) Thomas, Gail (Sandy Telles), and Paula; his son Charles E. (Alison); his daughter-in-law Brenda (Bruce's widow); his two step sons John (Lisa) and Edward (Deb) Weigel; and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service at Trinity United Church of Christ in Rome at a later date. There are no calling hours.
