Dorothy Garris, age 88, of Rome, passed away on November 3, 2016 at Rome Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Garris was born on October 11, 1928 in Kathleen, GA to the late Bennett and Della Berry Middlebrook. She was united in marriage to the late Levi Garris in November 1944. Mr. Garris passed away on April 11, 2008. Mrs. Garris worked as a food service worker for the state school in Long Island until her retirement. Mrs. Garris enjoyed gardening. Her family and friends always loved her cooking and no matter the time of day, always had something for her visitors. Mrs. Garris is survived by a daughter and son in law, Gibberteen and James Cyrus of Rome; a sister, Jesse Felder of Hastings, FL; eight grandchildren; and 18 great, grandchildren. She was predeceased by four sons, Levi, Steven, and John Henry Garris and Charles Robinson; a sister, Dessa Mae Donaldson; and a brother, Willie Middlebrook. Mrs. Garris’s funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Revelation Church of God in Christ in Wyandanch, NY. Burial will be in Calverton National Cemetery.
