William G. Swarts, Jr., age 61, of Rome, passed away on November 28, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. William was born on June 11, 1955 in Hoboken, NJ to the late William Sr. and Mildred Matarazzo Swarts. He graduated from Rome Catholic High School in 1973. He worked as an insurance adjuster for AIM. William was a SAL member of the Lee Center American Legion Post #1794 and a member of the post’s color guard. He also volunteered at Fort Stanwix. William is survived by a daughter and son in law, Amanda and Brandon Cant of Costa Mesa, CA; step daughters, Wendy (Mark) Wells of Earp, CA, and Dawn Rivas of Santa Anna, CA; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Rylee, Malissa (Jimmy), Joseph, Jacob, and Nicholas; a great granddaughter, Madison; four sisters, Kristin Swarts and her partner, Jacqueline Johnson of Fayetteville, NY, Jayne Swarts of Rome, Mary and Craig Carney of West Turin, NY, and Paula Burnor of Rome; and a brother and sister in law, Jon and Sandra Swarts of Columbia, SC. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be private.
