Perrylene Patton Whitesides, 92, of Asheville passed away Monday, January 23, 2017. Mrs. Whitesides was born August 27, 1924 in Georgia to the late Thomas and Margie Patton. As a young adult, she played musical instruments and sang on the radio in Morganton. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening and loved to help those in need. Perrylene was of the Baptist faith and retired from Beacon Mfg. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Spurgeon Hicks “Shorty” Whitesides; daughter, Maxine Taylor; son, Harvey Whitesides, and brother, David New. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Burgess and Brenda Mayhew; sons, Marlon Whitesides and Bill Styles; sisters, Marlene Guffey, Betty Booth, and Patsy Coulier; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 at 2:30pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. Mack White officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:30pm, Friday prior to the service time at the funeral home.
