Tim Rayburn

Tim Rayburn, 60, of Black Mountain passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Mr. Rayburn was born August 24, 1956 in Buncombe County to the late Wayne and Inez Boone Rayburn. Tim retired from the Black Mountain Fire Department after 30 years of service where he served as Assistant Chief and Fire Chief. He also served on the Black Mountain Board of Alderman and with the Buncombe County EMS for many years. Tim attended First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Leon Rayburn and sister, Lisa Greene. Tim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gail Rayburn; daughters, Mandy Effler (Chris) and Stephanie Jones; grandchildren, Collin and Joel Effler and Jackson Jones; sisters, Kay Gossage and Karrie Holloway. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Rev. David Rayburn and Rev. Frank Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow at Sky View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Saturday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Swannanoa Valley Museum, 223 W. State St., Black Mountain, NC 28711.
