Adele Anderson Brevard, North Carolina Obituary

Adele Anderson

Brevard - Adele Lucille (Savageau) Anderson passed on October 26th, at the age of 93 in the presence of her loving husband of 23 years, Robert “Andy” Anderson in Brevard, NC. Adele was blessed to have all her children, nephews, and their spouses visit with her the week before her passing. Adele was one of three children raised by Wilhelmina and Alfred Savageau, both blind, during the depression era in Chicago. She met Eugene Weaver traveling on a train from Amana to Chicago in 1946, and in 1947 traded her life in urban Chicago for that of a professor’s wife in suburban Cleveland. In 1951, she and Gene moved to Crawfordsville, IN, where they continued to raise three children. In 1960, the family moved to the Detroit suburbs, where Gene became the lead scientist for Ford Motor Company in developing the catalytic converter. Adele and Gene also welcomed into their home three foreign exchange students (from Germany in 1952, Holland in 1959, and Korea in 1966). It was in 1967 that Adele began her college career and went on to earn her BA in Human Resources. She used her degree to give numerous workshops, seminars and course in pre-retirement planning and providing services for the aging at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. She and Gene retired to Brevard in 1982. She was active at the Methodist church in the choir, and was a member of the Transylvania Choral Society and Brevard Music Lovers Club. She was also involved in the Brevard Little Theatre where she served as president for several years and performed in musicals, most notably “Nunsense” for which she won Best Actress Award. She was an avid hiker and member of the Pisgah Hikers. Habitat for Humanity also received many hours of service from Adele. She was tireless in her giving to the community. After Gene passed, Adele married Robert “Andy” Anderson in July 1993. With Andy, Adele continued to enjoy life. Together they enjoyed the adventure of travel and learning through Elderhostel and local classes. They added ballroom dancing and ping pong to their list of accomplishments, with Adele, of course, being a competitive opponent in Ping Pong. Never one to sit still, Adele continued her work with Habitat in its thrift store and added Sharing House to her activities. Sharing House remained a constant in her life right until her end, as she re-packaged food every week. Another one of her favorite projects was developing an active program for Heifer International at the United Methodist Church. Adele was a wonderful wife, mother, and mentor to many. She was an avid learner, and her curiosity knew no bounds, nor her sense of adventure. She is preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Weaver, brother Alfred Savageau, and sister Madeline Savageau Falcone. She is survived by her husband, Robert “Andy” Anderson, her sons Alan and Roger Weaver, daughter Charlotte Weaver King, step-sons Peter and Stephen Anderson, step-daughter Christine Eberle, in addition to her grandchildren, Kathleen and Benjamin Weaver, Matthew and Britta Anderson, Jack and Thomas Anderson, Andrew and Ben Eberle. Donations may be made to Adele’s favorite charity Sharing House, Transylvania Christian Ministries online at donate@sharinghouse.org or PO Box 958, 164 Duckworth Ave., Brevard, NC 28712. Services will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 11:00 at First United Methodist Church, 325 North Broad Street, Brevard, NC. Reception is to follow in Fellowship Hall.
