Neal Duffey Obituary

Neal E. Duffey, 89, of Ashland, passed away early Sunday morning, November 20, 2016 at the Crystal Care Center in Ashland following a long illness. He was born in Ashland on April 6, 1927 and was the son of the late Milton E. and Mary M. (nee Knapp) Duffey. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and had been a resident of Ashland his entire life. Neal owned and operated the Sohio Service Station on Cleveland Avenue in Ashland for over 38 years. Following the closing of his station he worked at the Sohio Station on Claremont Avenue with his brother Milton G. “Mic” Duffey. Neal was veteran of the United States Army Air Force serving during World War II. He was a member of the Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion for 62 years, The 40 & 8 Voiture 800, The Ashland Elks Lodge 1360, Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary, Ashland County Humane Society where he would help walk and care for the dogs, and was a volunteer at the Salvation Army in Ashland. He enjoyed fishing and doing Landscaping projects. Neal is survived by his children, Richard Allen (Theresa) Duffey of Bellville, OH; Patty (Phil) Bowles of Jeromesville; six grandchildren, Philip (Tabitha) Schumaker, Jason (Kaley) Schumaker, Kevin (Nancy) Bowles, Jeff Bowles, Kelly (Rob) Evans and Kara Duffey; three great grandchildren, Abagile Schumaker, Mya Bowles and Everleigh Evans; a sister-in-law, Marty Duffey of Ashland and his special friends, Rick wolfe and Bill & Patti Schumaker. Neal was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sarah Duffey, Donna Moore and Phyllis Anspach and three brothers, Roger, Dean and Milton G. “Mic” Duffey. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Earlenbaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
