Nancy M. Sherwood

Memorial services for Nancy Margret (Spraggon) Sherwood, 88, of Willoughby, will be at 11 AM on Friday, November 4, 2016 at The Lyons Chapel in The Nason Center of Ohio Living Breckenridge Village, 36859 Ridge Road, Willoughby.

Mrs. Sherwood was born on December 8, 1927 to Walter and Hazel (Pinney) Spraggon in Erie, Pennsylvania and passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Fairmount Health Center in Willoughby.

Nancy graduated from Edinboro College with a degree in education. She taught elementary school for a few years before meeting Earl Sherwood in 1956. They were married in 1958. They lived briefly near Pittsburgh, PA before moving to Perkins Drive in Mentor in 1962. They enjoyed their home there until 2008 when they moved to Breckenridge Village in Willoughby.

Nancy focused on raising her three children for many years. As they became a bit older, Nancy worked part-time as a tutor in the Mentor School system for many years. She enjoyed working with the students who needed just a bit of assistance to enhance their educational track.

After retiring from Mentor Schools, Nancy enjoyed time with her seven grandchildren. She loved taking them to Garfield Park, the YMCA, Lake Farm Park, the Holden Arboretum, and attending many of their sporting events. She was tireless in balancing her time and energy between them. As a classic grandmother, she was always ready with a kind word, cookies or a homemade snack for her grandchildren.

Nancy and Earl enjoyed a long life after Earl’s retirement and were able to travel both domestically and abroad.

Nancy also enjoyed working in her flower garden in Mentor, and volunteering for her church.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Earl; her children, John, David, and Mary, and her grandchildren, Kara, Scott, Curtis, Clay, Austin, Hayley and Stephen.

She was preceded by her parents, Walter and Hazel Spraggon.

Nancy M. Sherwood was a kind and generous woman, who lived a long, happy and good life!
