A praise service for Sue A. (Leaster) Hanson, 84, of Mentor, OH will be 5 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Family will receive friends from 3-5 PM on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hanson passed away December 19, 2016 in Mentor, OH, having been born September 28, 1932 in Bradford, PA.

Sue graduated from Hamot School of Nursing in Erie, PA with her RN in nursing. She worked as a supervisor of neo-natal nursery, in Pittsburgh, before moving to Ohio with her husband.

When her children were young she enjoyed volunteering many places. She worked in their school library, was very active in PTA and was both a Cub Scout and Brownie Girl Scout leader for several years. She also loved camping with the Willowick Campers Club and traveling with her husband and family across the country.

One of her passions was creative writing, she wrote many articles for the magazine Reminisce and published a small children's book for friends and family. She was a caring woman who sent many cards and letters to those she loved.

Her faith was a major part of her life, which she shared with her husband, most recently attending New Promise Church in Kirtland, OH.

She was a cheerful, outgoing person who made new friends where ever she went. Patient throughout her life dealing with many surgeries and chronic pain, Sue was always quick to share her joy of life and smile, no matter what.

Survivors are her son Steven Hanson; daughter, Susan (Dan) Zappola; granddaughters, Danielle Zappola and Jennifer (Jon) Sustar. She also leaves behind several cousins and their families.

She joined her beloved husband of 61 years, Richard E. “Dick” Hanson in eternal peace, who passed on December 7, 2016. Her parents, Charles and Ruby Leaster are also deceased.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Saint Labre Indian School, 1000 Tongue River Road, Ashland, MT 59003. www.stlabre.org
