Ringling - Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Ruth A. (Thompson) Pogue, 96, longtime resident of Ringling are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Ringling United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles McConnell, Rev. John Marks and family members officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Mrs. Pogue was born January 12, 1920 on the banks of Mud Creek at Stoner, OK to the late Mr. Charley C. Thompson and Mrs. Bessie Alice (Bowden) Thompson. She was called home to heaven on Tuesday evening January 10, 2017 at Marlow just 2 days before her 97th birthday.
Mrs. Pogue was raised at Stoner attending school there. She married the love of her life, Mr. Charles Edward Pogue on July 14, 1935 and from that union came two daughters and two sons. After moving to Ringling in 1957 and living in the home built as an orphanage , she began taking care of the elderly in that home. Later her husband built a new building and she served as administrator of the Ringling Nursing Home for many years. After her husbands death, on Nov. 18, 1978, she started working at Reser Funeral Home. She worked there until she was 90 years old and considered it her new ministry
Mrs. Pogue was known for her servant spirit and strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She trusted the Lord as her Savior as a young woman during a brush arbor meeting in Stephens County. She served her local church and community in a variety of ways. She volunteered as Sunday School secretary and record keeper for many years an untold number of funeral dinners during her 30 plus years of employment at Resers Funeral Home of Ringling. She baked pies by the score. The pecan pies were made with pecans she picked up and shelled herself. Her chocolate cream pies were the favorites of her 10 grandchildren.
The annual youth trips to Falls creek Baptist Assembly in the summer was a major highlight in Ruths life. She enjoyed being with young people, many of whom were her own children and grandchildren, during the hot summer. Mrs. Pogue always made certain the group was fed both physically and spiritually. It was so special for her and the youth groups. She would furnish scholarships for the young people who could not afford the cost of the trip. Heaven only knows the number of lives changed through her care and concern.
In addition to her husband, also preceding her in death were her Parents; son Billy A. "Bill" Pogue - January 4, 1998; son in law, Dwayne Pollock and her sister, Toy Gentry.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Pollock of Duncan and Kay Sanders and husband Paul of Little Rock, AR; son, Don Pogue and wife Suzanne of Ringling; daughter in law, Lonnetta Pogue of Ringling; 10 grandchildren, Charles Sanders of Little Rock, AR, David Sanders of Conway, AR, Sandi Medlin of Oklahoma City, Randy Pollock of Duncan, Rodney Pollock of Duncan, Charles Ray Pogue of Ringling, Michelle Lewis of Ringling, Heather Sowards of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cody Pogue of New Castle and Jim Ed Pogue of Bettendorf, Iowa; she also has 23 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers are Charles Ray Pogue, Randy Pollock, Rodney Pollock, Cody Pogue, Jim Ed Pogue and Rick Lewis.

God saw she was getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around her,
And whispered "Come with me",
With tearful eyes we watched her suffer,
And saw her fade away,
Although we love her dearly,
We could not make her stay,
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
