Harold Herman

Harold “Hal” G. Herman, 75, of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on November 13, 2016 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. Donations may be made to the Grants Pass Rogue Valley Humane Society in honor of Harold’s memory. Harold “Hal” Herman was born on October 29, 1941 to parents John and Euna Herman in Los Angeles California. He graduated from El Segundo High school in 1959. In 1966, shortly after Hal’s 25th birthday, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. During his military years, he was awarded several commendations. After being discharged from the military, Hal returned to Grants Pass, Oregon to help raise his two children Mark and Wendy, while rebuilding his General Contractor business. He also served his community as a member of the Grants Pass Jaycees and later was a very active member of the Grants Pass Lions Club for numerous years. While in the Lions Club, he served a term as President. Hal was very proud that his daughter, Wendy, followed in his footsteps and was the first female member invited to join the Grants Pass Lions Club. Hal and Pat served thousands of the famous "Lion Burgers" throughout his time as a member. In 1989, Hal and wife Pat moved to the Seattle, Washington area where Harold worked for the State as an ASA Housing Inspector. They later settled in Aberdeen, Washington as Harold had the opportunity to work as the Grays Harbor Housing Authority where he eventually retired from. While still working, Hal and Pat spent nearly every weekend camping which became their passion. After retirement, Hal and Pat, traveled around the United States in their RV enjoying the sights and occasionally catching a Mariners game together. There was very rarely a plan or a schedule when travelling, they would simply pack up, get to the end of the driveway wherever they were and say "should we go right or left". This allowed them to find many areas off the beaten path, away from the tourist areas. Hal is survived by his daughter Wendy Jones of Grants Pass, Oregon; Son, Mark Herman of Grants Pass, Oregon; Sister Eula Coil of Sutherlin, Oregon; Brother, Walter Herman of Lebanon, Oregon; and four granddaughters Alycia Herman, Briana Richardson, Haili Martin, and Mackenzie Scruggs all of Oregon. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on April 12, 2012 and his infant grandson in 1986.
