David Dorzab Hood River, Oregon Obituary

David Dorzab

David Victor Dorzab Sr. passed away at his home in Hood River, Oregon on January 11, 2017. David was born to Ella Huston and Truman Dorzab on October 6, 1944 in Woodland, WA. He married Paula Sollman on March 5, 1964. David served in the Army from 1961 to 1964 as a Paratrooper and a Mechanic. He worked as a volunteer firefighter at Pine Grove Fire Department and served as a deacon at the Odell Baptist church. David valued his family and faith and did everything he could to establish both of those in his household. He always listened to his hymns in the car, gave simple advice putting God in the center of the conversation, and took all of his grandkids to his church for Vacation Bible School every summer where he also served in the game station. He spent countless hours volunteering at the Odell Baptist Church, mowing their lawn, servicing the van, maintaining the building and doing any hands on work that was available. If you couldn't find him at church, you could find him at home driving his tractor around to maintain his property or occasionally pulling the kids in the back trailer. He loved working outside or in the garage with his son and grandsons, camping with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. David was a man who loved to make his family smile, if they weren't laughing at his jokes they would be laughing at David who found his one line comments so funny he would laugh until he would cry. He would do anything to help someone in need, in any circumstance his family and friends knew he was always one call away. There wasn't anything that he wasn't willing to do to lend a helping hand. David was a supportive husband, a loving father, a caring brother and an amazing grandfather and friend. He was well respected by many and loved by even more. He is already missed dearly. He is survived by his wife Paula, his children Deanna (Dan) Nakamura, Kim (Darin) Vess, David Dorzab Jr and Pauline (Jeremy) Smith along with their families also his sisters, Sharon Sollman and Carol DeHart. David was preceded in death by his mother Ella and father Truman Dorzab as well as his sister Judy Sollman. Memorial donations can be made for Wounded Warrior Project. Services for David are planned as follows; 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Anderson’s to visit with family and a time of viewing 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2017 at Odell First Baptist Church (3080 Odell Hwy, Odell, OR 97044) A graveside will follow at Idlewilde Cemetery when weather permits.
