Frederick Paul Dethman “Fred” passed away November 15, 2016 at his home in Hood River, Oregon surrounded by family. Fred was born December 3, 1931 and was 84. Fred was born in Hood River to Frederick Theodore and Johanna Nanny (Petersen) Dethman. Fred was a life-long resident of Hood River and only moved away when he served our country from 1951-1955 in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. On May 8, 1955 a short three months after his return from the air force he married Joanne Lemley and they enjoyed 44 years together before she passed away on July 24, 1999. Fred & Joanne were blessed with three children; David, Doug & Dana. Fred worked in the timber industry over the years as a log scaler. He enjoyed taking care of the family homestead. He was a member of The Elks Lodge and a board member of The West Side Fire Department. In his later years he and his companion, Betty “Bea” Sieverkropp enjoyed their many trips around the country and even to Germany with Geri & Chuck (his sister and brother-in-law). Fred is survived and will be dearly missed by, Betty “Bea” Sieverkropp; son, Doug (and wife, Karen) Dethman of Hood River, Oregon; daughter, Dana Dethman (and Mike Walston) of Hood River, Oregon; grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah & Mitch; great grandchildren, Luke & Keely; sister, Geri Cooper of Hood River, Oregon; thirteen nieces, nephews and many, many friends he has collected over the years. In addition to his parents and wife, Joanne Fred was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris and son, David. A service to celebrate Fred’s life and mourn his passing is planned for 11:00 a.m., Sunday, December 4th, 2016 at Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations) 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.
