Francis J. Bonfatto, 81, a longtime resident of Bellefonte, died peacefully Saturday, January 7, 2017 at UPMC, Altoona after a brief illness. Born June. 24, 1935 in Bellefonte, to the late Guy and Pauline Corica Bonfatto, Fran graduated in 1949 from St. John’s Catholic School and Bellefonte High School in 1953 and attended PSU. He married the former JoAnn Hazlett Yorks in January of 1978, and she preceded him in death Nov. 24, 2000. He is remembered with love by his four sisters, Mary Bonfatto (Bellefonte), Josephine Moore (Williamsburg, VA), Annette Callahan (Boalsburg), and Rose (Elmer) Letterman (Lemont), and one brother, John Bonfatto (Bellefonte). Also surviving are his stepchildren Chuck (Jennie) Yorks (Bellefonte), Chip Yorks (Cape Coral, FL), and Julie Yorks Morter (Niceville, FL), 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two nephews, David (Sherri) Letterman (State College), and Rick (Jennifer) Letterman (Moon Township), and a niece, Robin Letterman (Robert) Walter (State College). Fran worked as administrative specialist at the air national guard and the reserve of the U.S Air Force in State College, PA. He served one year active duty in Germany. In 1967, he joined his brother John and his mother Pauline in Bonfatto’s Inc., and he was part of the family business until his retirement in 1999. He operated Hoag’s Dairy Store in Bellefonte, and Keystone Advertising Specialties. Fran loved and served God through St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved and served his community as an active leader in Jaycees, Bellefonte’s Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge #1094, and associated community events, most notably the Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair. He was honored numerous times for service to God and community. He was a humble servant and friend to all, and is remembered fondly by many. He will be greatly missed. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte. There will be a public visitation at the church from 9 am until time of the service. Graveside services will be held afterward at Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to PAWS, Trout Road, State College, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bellefonte, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
