Carl Dennis Obituary

Carl L. Dennis, 87, of Sciota, died Wednesday, Dec. 7 in his home. He was the husband of the late Elaine I. (Wehr) Dennis. Born in Sciota, he was the son of the late Lawrence M. and Ida May (Metzgar) Dennis. He was a member of the Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg. Carl entered into the US Postal Service on April 5 1951 as Postmaster. He was a Postmaster for thirty five years before retiring on Dec. 31 1984. He was the past President of Monroe County NAPUS Postmasters Associations for ten years. He was also a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the US. Carl was involved in many activities and memberships throughout his life which included, the Barger Lodge 325 Free and Accepted Masons, the Lehigh Consistory of Allentown, Irem Temple AAONMS Shrine of WIlkes Barre, and the Pocono Mountain Shrine Club. He was a member of the West End American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert, member of Elks Lodge #329 in East Stroudsburg, and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 5382. He was also a member of the Western Pocono Lions Club. Carl was a former Director of the West End Fair, as well as a former Director of the Old Mill at Sciota. He was involved in the U.S. Airlines International Courier since 1994, and held a position as the Eastern Airlines Public Relations Ambassador for eight years. He was also the Hamilton Township CD and Emergency Management Director for thirty five years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Associate, member of the Monroe County Raildroad Authority, and a member in the U.S. Navy League. Naval Aviation was his expertise in the Korean War, where as he became part of the Naval Aviation Association. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec 12 at 11:00 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville with Rev. David Danneberger officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 12 at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
