Arthur Hughes Obituary

Arthur Ralph Hughes, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 23, 2016 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 27, 1947 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Ralph George and Margaret Stanchowski Hughes. A U.S Army veteran, Arthur served honorably in the Vietnam War. He was employed with Valley Quarries and New Enterprise Stone and Lime for twenty-two years. Arthur was a hard worker; enjoyed gardening; lifting weights; reading; and watching Pittsburgh sports teams. Arthur always put others before himself. He was a dedicated husband, father, brother and a loving pappy, his grandchildren were the love of his life. He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Cheryl A. Hughes; three children, Damon Hughes of Chambersburg, Wendy Short and husband Trevor of Chambersburg and Aaron Hughes of Hershey, PA; six grandchildren, Gunnar, Brecken, Hailey, Dylan, Ray and Alex; two great-grandchildren, Myles and Carolina; and two sisters, Debora Hornbaker and husband Bob of Chambersburg and Donna Hughes of West Virginia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Deanna Hughes. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Interment, with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard, will follow at Salem Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
