Nancy Hartman Obituary

Nancy D. Stees Hartman, 67, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at her home with her family by her side. Born in Hummelstown on January 13, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Frederick William and Janet Elizabeth Hendricks Stees. Nancy retired as a Certified Public Accountant from the Pennsylvania Medical Society and its subsidiary PIMS Health Care Consultants where she had worked from 1992 to 2011. She was a former accountant for Joe Lazer Accounting and New Directions Progress, both of Harrisburg. Prior to becoming an accountant Nancy was an Intensive Care Nurse at Community General Osteopathic Hospital and a floating nurse at Harrisburg Hospital. She was a 1966 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School; a 1969 graduate of the Nursing Program at Geisinger Medical Center; and received her Accounting Degree from Pennsylvania State University Capital Campus in 1982, completing her accounting internship with the Hershey Corporation Engineering Department. Nancy was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown. A very giving person, she volunteered her time with AARP Tax Foundation preparing taxes in the Spring; with LOVE, INC. helping with their programs; and with her church’s audit. Nancy loved being at the beach searching for sea glass and watching the sand pipers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening; but more than anything Nancy loved spending time with her family, especially playing card games with her grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Carey L. Hartman, whom she married on December 20, 1969; one son, Jeffrey D. Hartman husband of Catherine of Severn, MD; four grandchildren, Pamela D. Hartman and Travis A. Hartman both of Harrisburg, and Jonathan C. Hartman and Annemarie P. Hartman both of Severn, MD; two brothers, William K. Stees of Wheeling, WV, and Robert D. Stees of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Bonnie R. McCullough of Steelton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Hartman on September 24, 2009. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 11 AM in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 850 Hill Church Road, Hummelstown, with The Rev. George M. Minick officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to the viewing Thursday in the church from 10 AM until time of the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions made to the American Heart/Stroke Association, Capital Region, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043; or to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
