Harry Abel

Harry Henry Abel, 86, of Indiana, formerly of Decker’s Point, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Jane (Repine) Abel. Born December 1, 1930 in Decker’s Point, he was a son of John Clair and Gertrude (Longwell) Abel. Harry attended Marion Center High School, graduating in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. He worked as a line inspector at Ford Motor Company for 30 years, while living in Hamburg, NY. He attended First Baptist Church and he operated a car wash on Lake Street in Hamburg, until he retired from Ford in 1986 and moved back to Decker’s Point. Harry lived on his farm in Decker’s Point until the mid-1990s when he moved to Indiana. He was a member of the Independent Baptist Church of Blairsville. Harry is survived by his wife, Jane; Children Clair E. Abel and his wife Amee, of Keene, NH and Judith L. Townsend, of Dayton, OH; Brothers Boyd Abel, of Decker’s Point and John Abel and his wife Carol, of Arcade, NY. He is also survived by his grandson, Christopher J. Abel, of Keene, NH and Sister-in-law Donna Abel, of Indiana, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Enos Abel. Friends will be received Thursday, February 23rd from 5-7PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. Additional visitation will be held Friday morning, February 24th from 10-11AM. His funeral service will begin at 11AM at the funeral home, Rev. Robert Ingmire presiding. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Independent Baptist Church of Blairsville, 123 Bridge Street, Blairsville, PA 15717.
