Loyal Weaver

Loyal Jacob Weaver Jr., 92, of Pittsburgh and formerly of Indiana, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Passavant Hospital in Allison Park. The son of Loyal Jacob Weaver Sr. and Lila (Best) Weaver, he was born April 30, 1924, in Knox. Mr. Weaver graduated from Trinity High School in Washington and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English. A veteran of World War II, fighting in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Okinawa in the South Pacific, he was awarded four Bronze Stars. His professional career was in the finance industry working for Household Finance Corporation and National State Bank (Wells Fargo). Jake was an active member of Graystone Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, Sunday school class teacher, small group leader and as a member of the Endowment Trustees, among other activities. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and an active leader in the church all of his life, no matter where he lived. He raised his family in the church. Jake loved to read, travel, play fantasy football and he especially enjoyed family time such as fishing and making maple syrup at his cabin near Ligonier. He is survived by his sons, Loyal Jeffrey (Brenda), of Indianapolis, and David Dean (Beth), of Pittsburgh, as well as his eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Louise (Bence) Weaver. A memorial service will be held at Graystone Presbyterian Church, 640 Church St., Indiana, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, to be officiated by the Rev. Rick Hurley and the Rev. Dr. D. Dean Weaver. Donations in memory of Mr. Weaver can be made to EduNations, a nonprofit ministry that builds and operates schools in Sierra Leone, Africa, at EduNations, P.O.
